Mental Health - A call to our community

Veterans Mental Health Week is 24th October to 1st November and is organised by the Department of Veterans Affairs to help veterans live well with mental health conditions. RSL Greater Springfield are coordinating a plethora of activities aimed at calming the mind, developing strategies to cope, and building activity and socialising into veterans' lives.

Springfield Gamers are working with RSL Greater Springfield to organise a Mental Health Gaming Day on Sunday 24th October, 9-5pm focussed around mental health. We want Brisbane gamers to meet veterans, demonstrating our welcoming, social and fun hobby. We will be inviting veterans, their families and the local community to come along and join in the activities.

SG focuses on face-to-face gaming as we believe it is the way games are meant to be played and there is no substitute for the positive atmosphere and connectivity between people. We have members who are veterans and see the benefits first hand. As Springfield is an area with several local ADF facilities and many ADF families and personnel, SG warmly invites them to be a part of our gaming community.

We are looking for gamers around Brisbane to back us up, and help us show the best form of modern gaming. We are looking for volunteer organiser:

  • Tournaments

  • Participation games

  • Demo games

  • Dungeon Masters

  • Board game aficionados

  • Stores to assist with terrain, prize support, staffing, or other means.

We are open to any games. Events should have a focus on people first, having fun and ‘doing’ with sportsman attitude being represented in the tournaments.

Please email your interest before Monday 3rd October 11:59pm
